Toothache
When dealing with a toothache, first call your dentist and explain your symptoms and ask to be seen when they are next available. Then to ease the pain, take an over the counter medicine that works best for you but do not put the pills on the sore tooth. Hold an ice pack against your face to help soothe the sore tooth. Do not using heating pads or hot water bottles or any other source of heat on your jaw. The heat will make things worse.
Chipped or broken tooth
Have a broken tooth? No worries, they can almost always be saved. Call the dentist and explain what happened, they will see you right away. If it's a tiny break, the dentist will use a white filling to fix the tooth. If the break is more serious, a root canal might be required. Your tooth could also need a crown (a cap).
Knocked Out Tooth
If the tooth has been knocked out and it's a permanent tooth, the dentist might be able to place it back in, however, you must act quickly. If the tooth is placed back within 10 minutes it has a fair chance of taking root again, after 2 hours the chances become poor. If the tooth looks clean, put it back in its place (its socket). If that doesn't seem possible and there's a chance that the tooth could be swallowed, place it in a container with cold milk. Go to your dentist or the nearest dentist right away so you can save the tooth.
Badly Bitten Lip or Tongue
If there is bleeding, make sure you press down on the part of the mouth that is bleeding using a clean cloth. If the lip is swollen, use an ice pack to keep the swelling down. If the bleeding does not persist, go to the E.R. or hospital right away.
Something Stuck Between My Teeth
Always start off by attempting to use dental floss and gently attempt to remove the object. Never poke between your teeth with a pin or a similar sharp, pointy object; it can cut the gums or scratch the tooth's surface. If you cannot remove the object visit your dentist.
Lost filling
Put a piece of softened sugarless chewing gum on the spot where the filling was lost this will protect the area for a small period of time in order for you to go see your dentist right away.
